I’m trying to keep my bills down I’ve found a great buy – it costs 20p an hour to run and gets rooms warm in no time

A MAN has come up with an energy efficient way of heating rooms in his home and it is costing him just 20p an hour.

Ben Stevenson came up with this brilliant heating hack and shared it with members of the money saving social media group Extreme Couponing UK.

Posting on the site he wrote: “If anyone else has electric heating and is worried about how much those portable heaters are going to cost in winter."

"A few days ago I picked up a 600w oil filled heater that's fantastic.”

“After having it on for just over an hour my bedroom (which struggles with the cold) is lovely and warm. It works out about 20p an hour on the capped tariff.”

Some members of the group replied to his find and questioned whether this was actually a value for money saving solution to the forthcoming winter fuel crisis.

But Ben was adamant that this could potentially be the perfect solution for people to save money on their fuel bills.

Others were fully supportive of the bargain hunters find.

Rosie Middleton wrote: "I got an an oil filled 2kw one from screwfix for £37. Has done a good job so far of keeping my utility room a bit warmer."

In response to their queries Ben posted this message writing: “To everyone that's saying about the low wattage producing less heat I do agree that the initial heat is less than the bigger 2kw models.."

"However I was looking for something that could be left on over time without costing 60/70p an hour."

"I have very poor Insulation in my walls and find that I have to keep the 2kw oil heaters on for hours to maintain the heat or it just bleeds away."

"I got this as a way to just keep damp out as I leave it on for longer but was very happily surprised by just how much heat was produced at such a low wattage."
