Giant house spiders are seen all year round, but mate in the autumn time, meaning you're probably seeing more of them.

"This includes clearing away any dead flies, or any other small, crawling insects."

The pest control expert revealed you should vacuum regularly, especially in sheltered places like under sofas or under beds where spiders are likely to make themselves at home.

He added that spiders often make webs in corners of ceilings so it's best to vacuum both high and low to deter them.

Next he recommends removing any webs you can see which will keep spiders at bay as they won't be able to catch their food.

The expert adds that you should fill any holes or gaps in walls or doorways too so spiders can't crawl into your home.

You should also remove any sheltering sites around the perimeter of your home that spiders are drawn to.

These include firewood piles, garden bags and any compost heaps lying around.

Finally, the pest control expert recommends deterring all insects from your home so that spiders can't find a food source there.
