Oliver Thompson, 7, wins our tea towel competition celebrating the life of Queen Elizabeth II
OLIVER THOMPSON’S beautiful drawing will become a piece of royal memorabilia after he won our Queen Elizabeth II commemorative tea towel competition.
As the nation mourned, we launched a contest so children could express their love for the Queen – and hundreds responded.
When the news of her death broke, three rainbows adorned the sky – one at Windsor and a double rainbow over Buckingham Palace – and we asked youngsters to create a piece of art that captured those rainbows and our wonderful monarch.
Judges chose seven-year-old Oliver’s drawing as the winner. It will now be printed on 250 limited-edition tea towels that Sun on Sunday readers can win.
With his entry, featuring a smiling Queen flying over a rainbow, the schoolboy from Cleckheaton, West Yorks, wrote: “I really, really love the Queen. I hope she’s happy in Heaven. I bet she is, being with Prince Philip again. The other people in Heaven will look after her – my grandad definitely will.
“She looked after our country really well. King Charles is the Queen’s son so he will do a good job because he will have learnt from his mummy.

“I loved all the colours she wore, and I bet that’s why she sent the rainbow when she died. Thank you for everything, Your Majesty. I love Paddington Bear, too!”
His mum Nicola, 36, an NHS worker, said: “He’s so thrilled. He loves his art, but can be a bit shy. This is amazing news and something he will treasure now and when he grows up.”
Oliver said: “Have I actually won? I can’t believe it. I hope the Queen would like the picture, too. I can’t wait to tell everybody at school. I don’t know what to do, I’m so excited.”
TV antiques expert Tracy Martin says that with a limited run, Oliver’s tea towel will increase in worth.
She added: “Anything about the Royal Family in these unprecedented times will be collectable and accrue value.”
While Oliver will have his design printed, there were lots of other great entries.
