YOU may not realize it, but there are design trends that make your home look tackier than you think.
An interior design channel on YouTube outlined the 10 trends to avoid this year if you want your home to look classy and timeless.

The account is run by Valentina and her husband Jack.
In a recent YouTube video, Valentina and Jack cover the ten trends that should be avoided this year.
They begin with the concept of sculptural furniture.

Valentina explains that she's not against this kind of furniture, but isn't fully sold on it either.
"I think it's really cool to include a sculptural piece in your home. It really gives it sort of that sophistication. It feels a little bit worldly. It feels unique and artistic," she says.
But you shouldn't overdo it.
Try and start with a smaller piece like a vase.

Jack isn't a fan of subway tiles.
"It's not that subway tile is out because subway tile is a basic thing...but my go-to instead is to look for a subway tile style that maybe has something special going on with it," Valentina says.
This tile is classic, but you never want it to feel "stale".
Look for different variations of it and complete one wall with one material.

Valentina reveals her controversial opinion which is to avoid blond wood.
"People are getting tired of it because so many people are doing it," she explains.
Again, you can't go crazy and cover your whole house with it.
Also, Valentina and Jack suggest looking for a wood that's native to where you're from.
"The mob is coming up the driveway now," Jack jokes as Valentina divulges the next trend – wicker and rattan furniture.
For Valentina, the open wicker and rattan furniture that you would find at Urban Outfitters feels too trendy to stick around.
"It has this sort of disposable feeling to it. The scale isn't necessarily there," they say.
She suggests finding this type of furniture at Serena & Lily.
According to Valentina, the lazy loungewear fashion trend that started during the pandemic has now transferred into home designs.
The raw wood finish and cloud sofa hype are going to be replaced with finer finishes.
"This next one is boho being replaced with my personal favorite, which is nomad," Jack admits.

The two styles are quite similar but have a few distinct differences.
"Boho is more of a lifestyle... and nomad actually has travel in it," Valentina explains.
In other words, is the idea of wanting to be worldly, whereas the nomad actually is.
Having overly open spaces is no longer a trend you should follow.
More and more people are excited to start closing their spaces off after the pandemic is beginning to calm down.
"We're not talking about walling up your entire house," Valentina admits.
"But we do think it is going to be more segmented where you have different spaces having different roles."
Hyper minimalism took over the design industry, and now it's time for it to go.
Don't take the detail out of your home.
With that being said, the obsession with white walls is also beginning to die down.

"It's too much there's no contrast," Valentina says.
Yet, too much color isn't a trend to follow either.
"If you use anything too much, then it stops having the impact you're probably going to want in your space," she explains.
"Your eye literally can't land anywhere because it's shooting around the room trying to look everywhere," Jack adds.
Your home should always have contrast, and you can do this with tones or between rooms.
