THE RECENT heatwave and hosepipe ban have meant our lawns are parched.

But don't threat, there are some simple solutions to getting your lawn green again before summer is over.

Gardening expert, David Hedges Gower, chairman of the revealed the four steps you can take to get your garden looking healthy again.

The first step is to of course water your lawn, make sure to check if your area is under a hosepipe ban beforehand.

You can use left over water form your bath or shower if you are under a hosepipe ban to water your grass.

The expert adds: "It's best to water late evening as grass grows most at night during hot weather.

To make sure your lawn comes back green, the expert suggests using an organic feed when watering it, reports the .

Mowing your lawn while it is brown and dry should be done with caution.

To make sure you don't add any more stress to the grass, ensure the blade isn't blunt and raise the mower height as high as it can go.

This will allow the grass to absorb more water and feed.

Airating your lawn is also important adds the gardening expert, he explained: "This will allow better use of water, fertilisers and inevitably lead to greener grass.”

The expert recommends working with nature to get the most out of your lawn.

Heavy rain requires more airation to allow the water to travel down into the soil, and dry spells affect soil too by reducing air space.
