I’m a gardening expert – six ways to banish flying ants from your home and garden
FLYING ANTS often make their appearance after a heat wave.
While they aren't a danger, they can be an annoying addition to the garden and home.
Luckily, a gardening expert has revealed six easy ways to deter them from your home and garden.
Chris Bonnett, founder of revealed there's no specific day for flying ant day but they often come out to find new homes during mid to late August.
The first way you can get rid of them is by placing tins on top of the ants soil mounds.
The ants will move their eggs into the tins, and you can then slide a piece of cardboard underneath to dispose of them.

The gardening expert said: “If you don’t mind using a traditional chemical treatment, dust this around doors, patios or other dry areas where any pathways are spotted."
He cautioned that you should be careful where you place the chemicals if you have young children around.
Spices such as cayenne pepper and cinnamon pepper can also deter ants if dusted around your plants.
Mint and garlic also work well as Chris explained 'they hate the smell.'

The expert added a spray bottle filled with water and white vinegar can also banish the pesky bugs.
If that isn't enough, he suggests using white vinegar alone, the same can also be done with washing up liquid and water.
He added: “Use artificial sweetener. This is one to put you off using the stuff yourself, as it is deadly to insects.
“You’ll need to mix it with something like apple juice to make it palatable to the ants, but this then creates a paste that is toxic to them.
“Simply pour a bit near to nesting sites and the ants will carry it back to the colony, meaning masses of them will consume the poisonous paste and knock back the population.”
