I’m a single mum & gave up on my looks after a painful divorce – I wiped a decade off my appearance on 10 Years Younger
A HEARTBROKEN mum whose confidence was shattered after a painful divorce managed to wipe 12 years off her perceived age in less than two weeks.
Schoolteacher Taryn appeared on tonight’s 10 Years Younger in 10 Days to see if the experts could wind back the clock on her appearance.

The mum-of-one’s world was turned upside down following the breakdown of her relationship and she was left to raise her daughter alone.
Speaking on the Channel 5 show, she said: “I feel like I lost my confidence in my late 20s as a result of a really, really bad marriage.
“It definitely took its toll on me physically and emotionally while still being a mum.
“It meant I almost had to pick myself up and start my life all over again.

“Becoming a single mum I put a lot of things aside, including my appearance, as my priorities were elsewhere.
“On the outside I feel like I look tired, drab, boring, it’s just not reflecting who I truly am.”
Taryn’s perceived age was polled, and the public deemed her to be 49 when she is actually 40.
Speaking to host Cherry Healey, a shocked Taryn said: “That hurts a bit to be honest.”

The team set out to help shave the years off by sending her to stylist Gemma Shephard.
Taryn said: “Fashion was my big thing when I was younger.
“I’ve been married and divorced and that’s when I lost interest in what I was wearing. The things I choose are practical, sensible, easy to wear.”
Gemma immediately got her to change out of “boring” jeans and try a black leather dress and a pair of high-waisted jeans.
And Taryn was a fan of her new look, and gushed: “Wearing this leather dress made me feel like a completely new person. It felt like I could own the world.”

Next she visited beauty and skin speciality Nilam Holmes for a lash lift and a brow lamination to “open her eyes.”
She then sought the help of make-up artist Hannah Martin to get some tips for everyday and evening looks.
Taryn also got a new haircut, which got rid of her greys and replaced them with a bold blonde colour.
When it came to the big reveal, Taryn was amazed, and said: “Wow that doesn't even look like me.
“I’ve never in my life seen me look like that.
“For the first time in a long time, I like what I see in the mirror. I think a dark cloud has disappeared.”
The teacher was also delighted at her new average polled age being 37, saying: “Really happy with that.
“Hearing that and seeing myself in the mirror, I think I’m starting to see what they see.”
Her daughter Niamh, 15, couldn’t want to see the finished result, saying: “This will really help her be the person I know she can be.
“I want her to be the amazing and beautiful person I know she is.”

When Taryn walked in, Nimah exclaimed: “This just blew my mind, it was such a surprise but I love it.
“I always thought she looked pretty but I’ve never seen her look this beautiful. She looks like a different person.”
