BAD BRIDE

‘Greedy’ bride slated for unusual wedding request & people think it’s ‘the worst’

WHEN it comes to weddings, there's no official rulebook, but there are some standard practices in place.

Lately, people seem to be veering from the norm though, one particular woman making a strange wedding-related request.

A potential bride has posted a status on Facebook that has social media users feeling off-put.

In a post that received 80 reactions and 143 comments, she asked a wedding-related question.

She wrote: "What are your thoughts on a 'go fund me' wedding? Yes/no why?"

The Facebook post has since been shared with the subreddit group "weddingshaming" and posted under the tag "greedy," and users didn't take well to it.

Readers in the comments section of the Reddit post were completely taken aback by the idea of a wedding being funded by people other than a bride or groom.

Some completely shamed the woman who made the Facebook post, like one person who wrote: "I don't believe that someone should pay for your wedding unless of course that is something they really want to do (in which they offer it, I know some parents do this).

"I don't feel like you should set up a GoFundMe and expect it though. Just isn't right in my opinion. Shouldn't expect people to pay your way in life. You can get married without paying a lot. Don't have to have an extravagant wedding."

Another user who wasn't too fond of the GoFundMe platform itself said: "God, GoFundMe is the worst. I know people think 'well if a few people pitch in a little bit, it’ll help even if I don’t get it all. It’s their choice to give.' But at what cost?"

A third commenter also against the idea of a GoFundMe wedding stated: "GoFundMe is such an amazing idea for people who actually want to do a life project that interests other people (example, an independent video game developer).

"It's a shame it's become a way to shamelessly beg when you don't need it for survival and are only doing stuff for yourself."

An additional user chimed in with their only exception for a GoFundMe wedding, writing: "The only reason I'd think it would be alright would be 'could afford wedding, paid for wedding, screwed out of wedding by act of God or sh**ty business, want to salvage a simple event from this dumpster fire.'"

And a final spectator wrote: "Oh my god! So I’ve heard of a few legit GoFundMe sponsored weddings now, but they were all for people who had already planned out and paid for a wedding that then got wiped out by like floods or wildfires or really severe disasters.

"I imagine people who post this kind of inquiry are the same ones who are just lazy, entitled, and irresponsible ding dongs that can’t be adult enough to pay their own way."
