BEDDER BELIEVE IT

I’m a cleaning expert & here’s the simple mistake we all make with our bedding – it’s so grim

THERE'S nothing we love more than slipping into a set of fresh bedsheets at the end of a long day - but let's be honest, the process of actually changing them is a total faff.

So it goes without saying that we're definitely guilty of leaving it a few weeks at a time before we eventually get round to this household chore.

However, that's about to become a thing of the past - as the cleaning experts at have shocked us into action.

According to the pros, the biggest mistake most people make with their bedsheets is not changing them every week.

If you don't stick to this schedule, the experts warned you'll be "surrounded by body oils, bacteria, dead skin cells, and dust mites" as you snooze.

Unsurprisingly, that'll affect your quality of sleep over time too.

Sharing their top tips to thoroughly clean your bedding, the experts recommended treating any stains before you put them in the wash.

And while it might sound obvious, they also urged people to check the washing instructions on your duvet cover and pillow cases ahead of time - as they'll can vary slightly.

Rather than putting your sheets in with any old wash, the pros said the sheets should be the only thing in your machine.

This will give them plenty of space in the drum so they can get properly clean.

Although we've got into the habit of putting tumble dryer sheets in with everything, the experts warned that they can actually make fabric less absorbent - so recommended dryer balls instead.

If you can, it's worth letting your sheets dry naturally outside - as the sunlight can treat stains and means they'll dry evenly too.

If you ask us, life is too short to iron your bedsheets - however, the experts said doing it once in a while will kill any lingering germs.

Earlier this year, cleaning expert Ryan Thaker, from , revealed how often we should be cleaning our actual duvets too.

He claimed a duvet that isn’t washed the recommended number of times can harbour more than 20,000 dust mites and their faeces alone.

''Not only that but research has suggested that faeces from dust mites can also impact our skin, making it more susceptible to allergens and irritants,'' Ryan added.

In order to prevent this from happening, it is recommended to wash it every two to three months on a high setting of 60 degrees and dry in your dryer or outside.
