Brits left ‘mind-boggled’ after finding out what bottom of postboxes REALLY look like

A PHOTO of three post boxes has stamped out perceptions of how they look at the bottom.

Many wrote online how they are mind-boggled at seeing what the red mail pillars really look like and how they are fixed into the ground.

A picture of three postboxes was shared showing long black pillars that fix them into the concrete ground.

They were temporarily moved to a household's grounds in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, to make way for major building works.

Mark Hargreaves, who first shared the image earlier this month, wrote: "First-class if you ask me.

"I never really thought about this, I wonder how many more people thought about how post boxes are attached to the floor."

A woman then shared the picture in a now-viral tweet, writing: "Today is the day I learnt that they’re not just attached to the floor!"

Thousands commented, with one writing: "What the actual f***?!"

Another added: "It's like seeing a teacher outside of school."

A third called it ";postbox wizardry" while a fourth joked: "This is why I have trust issues."

Red postboxes have been at the centre of British communities for almost 165 years.

A postman uploaded a photo showing a metal cage holding in everyone's mail.

They wrote: "Open box, bag under the chute then empty. Change tab to next day and voila.

"Pls don't jam big packets in as it blocks them."

One person responded: "Interesting to know more about the post.";
