WANT to make the flowers and plants in your garden thrive this summer? An easy 14p hack may be the answer.
Primrose’s gardening expert Evie Lane revealed that you can make your own effective homemade fertiliser using leftover banana peel.
She told : “If you don’t have access to a compost bin, plant owners can turn their leftover banana peels into an easy recipe guaranteed to make outdoor plants thrive.
“Add your leftover peel to a jar, fill with water and leave for the ‘tea’ to steep for about a week.
“Once done, remove the peel and pour the concoction into the soil surrounding your plants.”
Banana skins are perfect for the job as they are full of phosphorus, potassium and calcium.

Phosphorus helps to promote fruiting and flowering in some plant species.
It can also help pollination, shoot and root growth and seed germination, meanwhile potassium can help plants’ resistance to pests and diseases.
Finally, calcium has been hailed as the “most important mineral in the soil" and it increases soil’s nutrient-holding capacity.
So, next time you are tempted to fork out for a pricey gardening product, maybe head to the supermarket for a banana, that can be as little as 14p.
And if you do have a compost bin, make sure to add your banana skins to it whenever you can.
