I’m a make-up artist & these are the beauty rules you should ignore, from blush on the cheeks to powder on dry skin
IF THERE'S one thing we're not short of, it's beauty advice; from which products to use on your skin type, to how long you should leave a hair mask in.
Some rules are there for good reason, for example, expiry dates on make-up products.
But there are a handful of practices that we've stuck to just because it's what we've always done, even though they're actually outdated.
Pro make-up artist Saffron Hughes from at explained what you need to drop from your routine.

Hair masks need to be washed off after the allocated time
Of course, it’s important to follow guidelines of any product you buy, especially hair dye.
But when it comes to hair masks, and their sole focus of hydrating your hair, there is nothing wrong with leaving it in longer than the allocated time.
Leaving a hair mask in longer will nourish your roots intensely and, if you leave it overnight, you’ll wake up with soft and shiny locks.

Concealer is only for under eyes
Concealer is vital for covering dark spots and tired under eyes, but it’s so much more than that.
By changing the way you apply it, you can give yourself an eye lift; draw a straight line from the outer corner of your eye up to your temple for a finished brightened look.
You can’t wear a bright lip with dramatic eyeshadow
A bright lip paired with bold eyes is a classic Old Hollywood look that is never outdated.
We’ve been told that having both runs the risk of looking "too much", but that’s not the case!
Make-up can be about expression and is made for you to experiment and you’re your style.
Only apply blush to the apple of your cheeks
Gone are the days that one product is for use on just one part of your face.
Blush provides a vibrant dose of colour that is meant for all over.
Blush, creamy or powder, can be used of the bridge of your nose and eyelids for an illuminating glow topped with highlighter
Start styling with freshly washed hair
Even though it sounds right to style freshly washed hair, it’s better to do this on one/two-day-old hair.
This is because it provides effortless texture and will hold the style better, meaning you won’t need as much hairspray or salt sprays.
Don’t wear too much bronzer
People can say you overdo it on the bronzer, but if you know how to apply, you can’t!
You start with outlining the natural curves of your cheekbones and the bridge of your nose.
A good trick is to apply a dust of bronzer above your eyes as your eyeshadow base.
This compliments the warmth of your cheeks and makes your complexion cohesive.
You can’t use powder if you have dry skin
If you have dry skin, you’ve probably been avoiding powder in case it makes your skin drier or cakey.
However, this was before the addition of game-changing beauty products.
Finely milled powders have the power to glide over dry patches without sticking right to them and creating a harsh texture.
Look into the blurring and smoothing trends to find a technique that works for you.
