However, what's not common is actually losing limbs because of it.
For one teen's bout with food poisoning, things went from bad to worse in a matter of days.
While staying over at a friend's house, a 19-year-old man didn't think twice about enjoying some leftover Chinese food, according to a March 2021 medical study obtained by
In a describing the study in detail, it was said that the man's friend also ate the leftovers and had vomited twice.
However, the morning after indulging, the teen was in so much pain that he couldn't even brush his teeth, so his friend took him to the hospital.
There, the man started to experience chest pain, shortness of breath, vomiting, and a fever of over 105 degrees Fahrenheit.

Within an hour of arriving at the hospital, the man's blood pressure had dropped to half of what it was when he walked in, and his condition only worsened.
He developed dark purple bruises all over his body, his blood pressure continued to drop, and no medication the doctors gave alleviated any symptoms.
Ultimately, the man was airlifted to another hospital for better resources.
At the new hospital, doctors realized the 19-year-old's kidneys had completely shut down, and his lungs, heart, and blood were on their way to failing as well.
After tons of tests, it was discovered that he had meningococcus, a severe form of sepsis caused by the presence of meningococcal bacteria in the blood.
Over the next few days, parts of the man's fingers and his legs below the knees had become infected, and doctors were forced to amputate all of the dead tissue.
The man slowly recovered and 26 days later, he became fully conscious.
Doctors discovered that the man had missed a meningococcal vaccine when he was 16 and a second booster before he went to college, but they were never able to discover how the leftovers had the bacteria.
Additionally, you may want to know the proper way to reheat your leftovers, which only includes one extra item.
