Savvy woman transforms ‘junkyard’ cupboard-under-the-stairs into stunning dressing room in TWO HOURS with B&M bargains

WE all have that area of our house that just seems to acquire stuff - you know, the old shoes, coats and bags we can't bear to throw away yet but also never wear.

Well one person who knows a little something about this is Jemma Sweeting.

The 33-year-old, from Newcastle Upon Tyne, said her under-the-stairs cupboard had turned into a total "junkyard" over the years.

Describing how she was "ashamed" of the mess, Jemma said the space was crammed full of Christmas bargains, camping gear and old toys.

She explained: "Everything I had no room for was put in this cupboard."

As she works as a member of cabin crew AND an NHS nursing assistant, Jemma decided at the start of this year that she wanted to reclaim the wasted space and make it her own.

She continued: "Both my jobs require early starts.

“To save me from tip-toeing around the bedroom at 4am to get dressed, I decided to have my own little dressing room, where I can get ready in peace."

To begin with, Jemma got everything she possibly could out of the cupboard and into the corridor.

After sorting through the clutter, Jemma had enough rubbish to fill two bin bags.

With this step out of the way, she then whizzed to B&M to pick up some decorations for her new dressing room.

Along with a £7 pink hexagonal mirror and £15 fluffy rug, she also snapped up some photo frames for £2, shelves for £16, boxes for £4, a stool for £20 and a makeup organiser for another £2.

She also purchased a £1 heart ornament, £1 diffuser, a candle for 50p, a flower wreath for £6 and a battery powered light for £8.

To save me from tip-toeing around the bedroom at 4am to get dressed, I decided to have my own little dressing room, where I can get ready in peace.

Once she had everything she needed, it only took Jemma two hours to execute her vision for the room.

She joked: "It was a job that had to be done whilst my partner was at work because he would have just said I will do it properly for you when I get some spare time… and I would still be waiting in a year or two!

"It was really simple to do although I’m no handy woman, it doesn't take two minutes with a drill.”

In total, the makeover cost £82 and Jemma was so proud of her work that she posted the stunning before-and-after images on Facebook.

Jemma said: “I was shocked to see all the likes and comments online, and messages from people asking where items were from and how long it took me to do.

“I had a lot of people ask me if it’s big enough to stand in. It's a small door but once you’re in, you can fully stand up with lots of room.

“It’s not perfect, but it’s perfect for me!”
