But instead of panicking, clever mum Laura Fisher turned to Tesco, and found a cake that she could customise to fit in with her daughter's theme.

She eventually settled on the £11 Sammy the Sloth cake from Tesco, and moved the creature's little arms to the side of its head, before turning them upside down to make the perfect doggy ears.

"My daughter is obsessed with dogs, but finding a chocolate cake for her was quite difficult," she wrote as she shared a picture of the original cake and the customised one on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains group on Facebook.

"However, the sloth cake at Tesco very easily transforms."

She was quickly praised by Facebook users for the transformation, with one writing: "Amazing!!! I have a dog obsessed daughter who needs a birthday cake next Thursday! Great idea."

"Looks so much cuter the way u have rearranged it. what a great idea!" someone else added.

"Great job looks fantastic," a third person wrote. "Sometimes a little imagination goes a long way."

"That looks really good doesn't it well done fab mum for pulling it out the bag and doing an easy transformation quick fix," another person added.

"Bet your daughter loved the cake, looks really nice, hope that she had a really lovely day and enjoyed celebrating."

Others pointed out that dog cakes are available in Sainsbury's and Asda, but many agreed that Laura's creation is cuter than the ones sold as dog cakes.

In other cake news, this woman had an afternoon tea bought for her by her stepdaughter, but was told she'd have to pay for it herself.

This fast food fan celebrated his birthday with a cake shaped like a KFC bucket.

And M&S and Aldi have reached a deal over the Colin the Caterpillar cake.
