THERE'S no denying that skincare can leave quite the hole in our budget - but, according to an expert, this doesn't always have to be the case.

However, the popular item has found itself another use - as something akin to make-up primer.

The social media beauty and skincare fanatic, , claimed the cheap tube of petroleum jelly does wonders for a smooth application and is particularly beneficial for those with textured and dry skin.

''For me this has been a game changer!'' said Sarah, who has almost 175 thousand followers on Instagram.

According to her, all you need to do is add a bit of Vaseline to your foundation and apply it like normal.

''My foundation glides over dry patches and texture, doesn’t crease, and looks so pretty and glowy,'' she wrote in the caption.

''I usually choose a matte foundation with the coverage and longevity I want and then the vaseline just adds the glow I need.''

She even insisted that this simple skincare routine works great if you live in colder climate where harsh weather conditions will often result in painful wind burns.

This was approved by a viewer who wrote: ''Wow! Best hack ever, my Scandinavian skin can now survive winter!

''Looked amazing with a matte foundation.''

''omg where have you been in my life all these years!!'' another fan thanked for the tip.

However, some weren't so convinced and were certain that smearing Vaseline on face would lead to severe breakouts.

''Nervous about trying this on combination skin,'' someone said.

One user warned others and urged: ''Omg please, folks, don’t do this.''

''would it just transfer everywhere,'' pointed out another skeptical Instagrammer.

''Noooo the foundation will move around and it’ll create more creases,'' thought someone else.
