I forked out £20 for my dream lampshade on Depop… I was fuming when I realised I’d actually bought a COLANDER
BUYING secondhand can be a great way to save the planet and save your pennies.
We all love a bargain so apps and websites like Ebay, Depop, Vinted, Freecycle, Gumtree and even Facebook Marketplace have continued to grow in popularity.
Shared on the page which details the conversations that go down between buyers and sellers on the app, a lamp exchange went awry.
A buyer thought they had found their dream vintage, 70s style lampshade complete with a fringed edge
But when it arrived in the post they quickly realised something was wrong.

They opened their parcel to find a colander with fringing glued onto its rim.
Totally outraged, the buyer posted a photo of the 'lampshade' on Depop and left the seller an unfortunate one-star review.
In their review, the very angry buyer wrote: "Worst thing I have ever purchased on Depop. I am disgusted that you had the cheek to charge me 20 pounds of my hard earned cash for you to cut a hole out of a colander!"
The buyer added they were "actually offended" by the sellers audacity to send out such a bizarre item and then threatened to report them to Paypal if they didn't offer a refund.

In a screenshot of the heated conversation between the two, the buyer demands: "Well I think I at least deserve an an explanation???"
But in response, the seller wrote: "It's called arts, crafts and DIY. Not everything has to be brand new and can sometimes be up cycled and reused.
"I get that you may not appreciate it but it's how the world is evolving."
Surprisingly the commenters chose to take the seller's side as they said the buyer should have looked at the item better before they committed to buy it.
One said: "If it states that I handmade/upcycled then you should probably get over yourself."
Another joked: "The shade of it all."
One person said: "Ok but I want to see a photo of what they thought they were buying? Coz if that’s the photo I’m not sure why they are so surprised."
An eagle-eyed commenter noticed: "Nah look at the photo in the review vs what was sent. The og looks like an actual cloth lamp being sold.
"Regardless, false advertising. seller advertised one lamp and sent another."
"If it was advertised as an upcycled lamp shade then that’s more the buyers issue, if it was advertised as just a normal lamp shade or with pictures that made it look different, then it’s false advertising and that’s illegal. Also £20 for it is quite steep," summarised a commenter.
Many agreed the buyer was in the wrong but also that £20 was expensive for the home made item, while a commenter suggested: "The seller needs to apply for the Apprentice."
