Prince William ‘didn’t want to go to Princess Diana statue unveiling with Harry’ amid rift, close pal claims
PRINCE William didn’t want to attend a memorial for his mother Diana with his brother Harry amid their ongoing rift, a royal source has claimed.
The Duke of Cambridge was reportedly still “furious” with his brother in the weeks before a statue was unveiled at Kensington Palace last year to mark their mother's 60th birthday.
Both brothers had been warring with each other after Harry and wife Meghan chose to step down as senior royals.
It appeared the siblings had put aside their differences to honour Diana - although Harry reportedly left 20 minutes after sharing a glass of bubbly following the unveiling.
Now a close pal has revealed that William did not want to go to the event with his brother.
They told the : “William was still furious. He had taken the view that he’d only give so much. He just didn’t want to go there [with Harry].”
An aide added that the Duchess of Cambridge was “amazing” when Harry returned to the UK - working hard behind the scenes to ensure that the event went off smoothly.
But insiders have warned that the shattered bond between the two may never be fixed after their relationship hit rock bottom when Harry and Meghan gave a sensational interview to Oprah.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a series of shocking allegations against the royals, which reportedly fuelled the brothers feud.
The couple claimed that an unnamed member of the Royal Family had made a racist comment about the colour of son Archie's skin.
Harry also criticised his father Charles and said William, 39, and the family were trapped.
Meghan also claimed she was prevented from seeking mental health support when she was in crisis, adding that she even felt suicidal while pregnant with Archie.
Speaking to ITV’s Tom Bradbury in 2019, Harry admitted that he did not see his brother as often as he once did, and failed to deny a rift.
He again hinted at the strained relationship in an ITV documentary about him and Meghan Markle during their ten-day tour of Africa with son Archie.
Biographer Robert Lacey said the brothers quarrelled in the immediate aftermath of their grandfather Prince Philip's funeral in April, and there was no sign of any improvement.
In his book, Battle of Brothers, a source close to William claimed he believed Meghan had always had an “agenda”.
