ELF OFF

Fuming mum’s Elf on the Shelf display goes horribly wrong – & leaves other parents in hysterics

THEY'RE the cheeky girls and boys who cause havoc for the entire month of December.

And while the arrival of January allows parents who indulge in the Elf on the Shelf tradition to breathe a sigh of relief, one mum was almost left with a permanent reminder of her elves' first day antics.

Lyndsey Sahota went all out to ensure the 1st December was a day to remember for her three children - Bella, nine, Jaxon, seven, and and Carter, five - placing their advent calendars on her kitchen floor, alongside the two elves and a dusting of flour from an open bag.

To make the scenario all the more effective, Lyndsey also used snow spray to write the words "We're Back" on the floor - positioning the cans to make it seem as though the elves were responsible for the graffiti.

And while the setup went down a storm with her brood, Lyndsey was left fuming when she cleared it up, only to discover that the snow spray had left a dark stain on her hardwood floor.

In the pictures shares to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips page on Facebook, the outline of the writing could clearly be seen where the spray had been used.

"Stupid elves!! Any suggestions here please? It’s real wood," Lyndsey wrote alongside the images.

She quickly received tips and suggestions from other people on the group, with one person writing: "Spray it with a bit of lynx spray. I've found with my wood floors it'll remove almost anything."

"Magic sponge, worked on my wooden sideboard- good luck," another person wrote.

While someone else suggested: "Oh god. I don’t know whether it would work but mayonnaise gets cup stains out so might be worth a try."

Another person hilariously pointed out that Lyndsey has her set up for day two of the elves, writing: "Definitely got your idea for tomorrow , elf jail for criminal damage."

While Lyndsey tried a variety of suggestions offered to her by the group - including sanding the floor, soapy water, Pink Stuff, vegetable oil and steaming it - she remains hopeful that mayonnaise might do the trick.

It works a treat in removing water rings from wooden furniture, so here's hoping it works on Lyndsey's floor.
