LUNCHBOXING MATCH

Mum slams school’s ‘ridiculous’ rule which bans son’s healthy lunchbox even though there’s nothing wrong with the food

PACKING your child's lunchbox isn't always easy, as children can often be fussy about what it is that they will or won't eat.

But one mum has had to face another hurdle, as her school has imposed strict rules on what parents are allowed to pack. Surprisingly, it has nothing to do with what kind of food is included.

The mother posted in a Facebook group for parents looking for lunchbox inspiration and shared a photo of her son's lunchbox.

She revealed that her son's healthy lunch, which consisted of a wholegrain sandwich, yoghurt, a protein bar, fresh fruit, cheese and air-popped popcorn, would be banned.

Even though the snap showed a healthy and balanced meal, the mother said the school would take issue with the amount of packaging used.

She wrote alongside the photo: "No doubt will get in trouble for packaging. Our school has zero bins for students."

Parents were quick to react to the post, with many saying the school's regulation was absurd, especially since most kids end up putting their trash back in their lunchboxes to be emptied when they get home.

"Just let them know the wrappers have to go back in the lunchbox," one person suggested.

"Our school has all bins in classrooms, recycle (for soft plastic), and green waste. Anything that doesn't fit in those categories comes home.”

Another wrote: "My kids' school has bins for lunch rubbish and my kid still brings home their snack rubbish."

And another said: “I find it easier to buy most stuff in bulk rather than individually wrapped so I can minimise the rubbish."
