Thrifty mum transforms cluttered bathroom into trendy jungle-inspired space with eBay & Facebook Marketplace bargains

EVEN though we're borderline obsessive about keeping our kitchens tidy, the toilet is the one area in our home that is consistently cluttered with countless beauty and cleaning products.

One person who knows a little something about this Nat Cresswell.

The mum, 35, from Ilkeston, Derbyshire, had been putting off her bathroom renovation for years after it slowly got more and more cluttered.

Speaking to , Nat explained how she'd been toying with the idea with painting her loo a dark colour before taking the plunge in lockdown.

After looking for inspiration on Facebook, the mum - who was caring for her newborn at the time - decided to get stuck into her jungle-inspired bathroom.

She said: "I love plants and I knew I wanted some in there, so that's why I thought of the dark green to compliment the tones and shades."

To begin with, Nat - who is a support worker for United Response - got a friend to rip up the old floors and replaster the walls.

"Once it was dry, I painted the walls and ceiling with Frenchic wall paint in the shade Dark Forest," she said. "I used a roller and applied two layers. Then I painted the bathroom door and bath side panels in Frenchic Blackjack."

Next, Nat stumbled upon a shelving unit for her sink for FREE on Facebook Marketplace and simply stripped the colour before adding some new B&Q handles.

She continued: "I found the boxes I used for above the toilet area on the Facebook marketplace. I sanded them down and used Frenchic browning wax again.

"With the tiles I used a black grouting pen from Amazon (or should I say 3). Ideally we would have loved new tiles but we did what we could with the ones we had.

"We got a radiator from the Facebook marketplace too, a more modern one than what we had before, and that makes a big difference."

Finally, Nat and her partner bagged their mosaic-style flooring from eBay and spent about £250 on the transformation in total.

Reflecting on the project that took four days to complete, added: "I’m so happy with the final result. When it was all done I had a nice relaxing bath with candles and a glass of wine! It was so cosy."
