THERE'S nothing quite like turning in for the night only to lay there wide awake thanks to your partner's snoring.
But according to a sleep expert, a tennis ball might be the solution you're looking for - simply sew it to the back of the culprit's pyjamas.
While it sounds like absolute madness, we agree, there is some logic behind it.
Speaking on This Morning, the sleep guru explained that snoring often occurs when you sleep on your back, or at least gets worse in this position.
So by attaching a tennis ball (or something similar) to the back of the person's pjs, it'll be impossible for them to lay flat on their back - therefore, prevent snoring.
The expert explained there's been an increase of people who snore regularly during lockdown, possibly due to more time spent at a desk and less time exercising.
From there, she suggested the tennis ball hack which could alleviate the issue altogether.
And your relationship will be saved, too.
She said: "Snoring gets worse when you lie on your back, because when you lie on your back your mouth is more likely to open."
And added: "Anything you can do to keep yourself leaning on the side should help. A tennis ball sewn into the back of your pyjamas can make it uncomfortable."
Snoring gets worse when you lie on your back, because when you lie on your back your mouth is more likely to open.
Sleep expert
According to , Karl Rollison, an internationally-renowned Harley Street therapist and author of Sleep Ninja, agrees to some extent - but suggests something a little more forgiving than a hard tennis ball.
He explains: "When we sleep on our backs the tongue and soft palate relax, succumb to gravity and rest on the back of the throat and make a vibrating noise. The jaw also relaxes so the lips open and the mouth becomes an organic echo chamber amplifying the sound.
"So, when we snore our heads become big, squidgy speakers playing really bad music. Sleeping on your side is less restrictive on the airways and creates better airflow. This is one of the reasons unconscious people are placed in the recovery position."
His solution is what he calls the "old-school" method, which soldiers often used.
They would sleep with a rucksack (type of backpack) on to prevent them from snoring and potentially giving away their position.
Vouching for the method, he said: "Many years ago, I cracked three ribs doing martial arts and if I shifted my position during sleep I woke up in agony, so I placed a pillow in a rucksack and wore it loosely on my back - I slept like a baby. This method physically prevents you from rolling onto your back without the pain of having a tennis ball on it."
