Covid has wrecked our eye health — here’s how to look after your peepers

CORONAVIRUS has played havoc with the nation’s eye health thanks to increased screen time, missed appointments with the optician and dry eyes from wearing face masks.

Today we look at ways to help our eyes, while our Beauty Editor tries collagen supplements that can give you healthy skin, nails and hair.

Optase Protect is an antiviral, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial spray for daily control of harmful germs that live on the eyelids and surrounding skin.

It contains HOCL, which is included in a list of disinfectants against Covid by the US and was deemed a “promising concept” by the NHS. Suitable for contact lens wearers and children.

I sprayed on to my eyelids each morning and it didn’t sting or smell.

Artelac has just launched a new range of preservative-free eye drops to help relieve, protect and hydrate dry and irritated eyes. Artelac Night are great as they do the job for you while you are asleep.

They contain 0.24 per cent sodium hyaluronate, a natural moisturiser. It has a pump action to administer, which makes it really easy to use and my eyes did feel less dry by morning.

TRAVEL

These are great for when you are out and about. Specsavers’ moderate dry eye drops are individual little pipettes with just 0.4ml of solution in each one.

Great if you don’t use very often as they have a two-year shelf life. I love the fact that they are contact-lens friendly, too. Definitely worth keeping in your bag for a night out (when we are allowed.)
