Woman who weighed 22st shed nearly half her body weight in lockdown & credits weight loss for helping her beat Covid
A WOMAN shed an impressive ten stone over lockdown - and credits her incredible weight loss for helping her recover from coronavirus.
Angelina Toppi tipped the scales at 22st 12lbs, after gorging on Dunkin Donuts for breakfast and snacking on sweets and garlic bread.
The 24-year-old, from Maryland, began losing weight after going through a bad break-up in February, as she wanted to ‘get back’ at her ex.
Angelina, who works in accounting, said: "I went through a bad breakup and I realised how heavy and unhealthy I was. The best way to get back at someone is to make yourself look better.”
Before her diet Angelina would start each day with four egg and cheese wraps from Dunkin Donuts, which she washed down with a large coffee with extra cream and caramel, and during the day she’d snack on chips, garlic bread and sweets.
Just three weeks after Angelina vowed to get healthy and started exercising, the US went into lockdown due to the coronavirus.
But rather than slip back into her old ways, Angelina ploughed on with her weight loss routine, and continued following the Keto diet.
The high-fat low-carb meals saw her swap her unhealthy meals for lean salads, vegetables and grilled chicken or tuna, while she eats almonds for snacks.
She said: “At first it was very difficult but after about two months, it really just became a lifestyle.
"I could know how many carbs were in something just by looking at it. It became second nature.
"I did miss pasta - I'm Italian so my family eats a lot of spaghetti.
"When I first started my diet, I was working out every day for three weeks.
"But then the shutdown happened so I started doing other things like intermittent fasting.
"And obviously when I got COVID, I couldn't go to the gym."
Angelina saw the weight drop off, and she went down to 12lbs 12lbs - losing an incredible 10 stone to be a trim size 12.
But while she was happy with her new figure, Angelina credits it with helping her recover from Covid-19, after she fell ill in October.
Angelina recalled: "If I was as big as I had been, I think my symptoms and the length of them, would have been far worse.
"My symptoms weren't that severe and I think it was because I am healthy and not obese anymore.
"I lost my sense of smell. I had headaches and I was really tired, but it only lasted three or four days.
"I think if I was as heavy as I had been before, I would have had issues with my breathing."
Angelina was able to recover at home, and she wants to lose even more weight after battling coronavirus.
She added: “I want to get to 10 stone.
"And then I'll slowly start adding healthy carbs again like fruit and maybe potatoes.
"I feel so much better about myself. "I find walking easier and I don't hear myself breathing all the time.
"I can fit into clothes at regular stores now. I'm not going to plus size stores all the time."
