WITH the UK now in the depths of winter it can be hard drying your clothes indoors, unless you cover your radiators in laundry.
With wet clothes potentially creating damp issues inside, Lynsey Crombie, aka , has shared some top tips to get them crisp in no time - without resorting to a hairdryer.
The cleanfluencer chatted on ITV’s This Morning, revealing how to get your clothes dry - even if you don’t have a dryer.
Her first tip may seem counter-intuitive, but she warned people not to overload the washing machine.
While you may see laundry as a chore and want to get it out of the way, you might need to do lots of little loads rather than a big weekly one.
Lynsey explained that more clothes in the drum can make it harder for water to escape, leading to soggier laundry.
She said: “If you’ve got too much washing in, the water is really going to retain and your clothes are going to come out so much wetter.”
And less clothes overall mean they’ll have more space to dry around your house, either on a clotheshorse or on your radiators.
Her second tip is to run another cycle once your load has finished - in a spin.
While all machines will spin washing towards the end of a programme, most appliances will have a separate spin function.
It’s not as long as a main wash, but can help get rid of any excess water which may still be in the drum - helping your clothes come out as dry as possible.
Lynsey said: “After you’ve done your washing, just flip it and do an extra spin.
“An extra 10 minutes can make a huge difference to your drying time.”
She also recommended to do your washing in the morning over winter, so it can dry during the day - when your heating will most likely be on.
If you’re lucky enough to have a tumble dryer, that can speed up your drying time, but Lynsey still had a tip up her sleeve - from her gran.
She said: “Now this is a really old tip, my nan told me about this one, years ago,
“So, make some really hard tin foil balls, do three or four and pop them inside your tumble dryer, particularly if you’re doing delicates… and this will reduce that static in there.”
If you don’t have any tin foil to hand, she added you can even use new tennis balls with the same effect.
