EACH person is labelled as Yin or Yang based on one of the five elements which is determined by their year of birth.
Chinese astrology explains the importance behind Yin and Yang and how it can impact relationships. Here's everything we know.
What does Yin and Yang mean?
Yin and Yang is the idea that everything in life flows together.
It is impossible to define the state of Yin or Yang, but both energies exist simultaneously.
According to Personal Tao, the concept of Yin Yang is each element coming together to form a whole.
The site explains: “Yin Yang is two halves that together complete wholeness.

“Yin and yang are also the starting point for change. When something is whole, by definition, it’s unchanging and complete.
So when you split something into two halves – it upsets the equilibrium.
“Both halves are chasing after each other as they seek a new balance with each other.”
The opposing forces are believed to be interconnected and interdependent and one cannot exist without the other.

While these forces oppose one another, they coexist harmoniously.
They are also equal and dependent upon one another.
Yin represents darkness, passivity, and femininity, while yang symbolizes light, activity, and masculinity.
Away from astrology, someone's personality can also be more dominantly Yin or Yang.
Yang types tend to be more active, extroverted and ambitious, while Yin types are peaceful, relaxed, and easygoing.
Yang people are more about radical change, dramatics, and standing out from the crowd.
Yin personalities are more hesitant and emotional.
Compatibility based on Yin & Yang
The elements identify birth years with certain animals using Earth, Wood, Fire, and Water elements which add more uniqueness to the sign.
Each sign has a Yin and Yang identity which is also applied to the element and birth year.
For example, the Rabbit has Yin polarity and if someone was born in the year of the Wood Rabbit which is 1975, the main element for that year is the Yin Wood.
The Yang signs are: Monkey, Tiger, Rat, Horse, Dragon, and Dog.
The Yin signs are: Rooster, Rabbit, Pig, Snake, Ox, and Goat.
No one is completely Yin or completely Yang because “each aspect contains the beginning point for the other aspect”.
You may have a Yang star sign but normally people are a mix of Yin or Yang since the planets are spread across different signs.
Part of the Yin and Yang energy creates a compatibility triangle to show how well they mesh with each other in areas of life such as in love, work, and friendship.
Members of the same compatibility triangle share the same yin and yang polarity.
First compatibility triangle: Yang Rat, Yang Dragon, Yang Monkey.
Second compatibility triangle: Yin Ox, Yin Snake, Yin Rooster.
Third compatibility triangle: Yang Tiger, Yang Horse, Yang Dog.
Fourth compatibility triangle: Yin Rabbit, Yin Goat, Yin Pig.
While this is not the main determining factor of compatibility, it helps to explain the idea that “opposites attract” because someone of the opposite polarity can help you feel more balanced.
