DIY fan who couldn’t afford new shelving transforms an old Ikea unit instead & it cost her next to nothing

IKEA has long been a go to for affordable furniture, but that doesn't mean you can't get the designer look with some crafty DIY.
Stacie Winter has proved that with a little creative thinking you can turn a basic shelving unit into a luxe Pinterest worthy item - without it hurting your wallet.
The DIY fan was in desperate need of some new furniture but couldn't afford to spend the cash on what she wanted.
Instead, Stacie got to work on an Ikea Flysta unit that she already had and has completely transformed it into a chic and luxurious display.
The piece of furniture, which is similar to the popular Kallax, was a basic white unit made of up eight spacious cubes - but now it features modern wooden-effect and jet black detailing thanks to some cheap sticky-back plastic.
But that's not all she did as the crafty DIY-er also attached some super stylish legs which she'd found on Amazon.
The hairpin legs elevate the unit, lifting it off the ground - and it's seriously the missing detail every display unit needs.
Stacie shared her transformation with her creative project attracting almost 20k "likes" and a couple thousand comments across two DIY-focused groups.
She wrote: "When you can’t afford the furniture you want, but you can afford Fablon and Hairpin legs! My upcycle project."
Savvy Stacie later revealed that she found the rustic wood and leather look sticky-back plastic designs from and the trendy legs from for a fraction of the price it would have cost for her to buy new furniture.
Along with before and after snaps of her project, she also shared progress shots detailing exactly how she got it done.
Speaking to Fabulous, Stacie revealed that she gets her clever ideas from Facebook pages and Pinterest and admitted she is very happy with the end result.
As for the workmanship, she said: "You need to take your time, lots of patience. I’ve used Fablon on a few things now so getting use to it. There’s also dc fix tutorials on YouTube which help."
She added that the Fablon kit came in handy too - which is a Fablon smoother and small stanly knife available for around £4 from .
Fans of the new look were quick to comment on Stacie's handiwork with one person writing: "I’m going to try this, the results you’ve had are stunning!!! Xx thanks for sharing."
"Omg this is amazing! I have the 4 unit one of these, bought 2nd hand and alot of scratches! I know exactly what I'm going to do with it now," said another.
While many others called it "beautiful" "amazing" and "brilliant".
