Mum desperate for crushed velvet sofa transformed hers with bargain eBay fabric – and people are so impressed

A mother has revealed how she transformed her sofa using fabric purchased on eBay, and people are more than impressed.

Becky Johnson decided to upholster her couch herself after realising she couldn't afford to spend £1,000 on a new one.

Posting pictures of the before and after on a DIY Facebook group, Becky explained how she managed to the job all by herself.

"So I really wanted a crushed velvet sofa for my living room but I couldn’t justify spending £1000 for a new one," she wrote.

"My current sofa didn’t match anything in my living room so I decided to reupholster it!

"Cost me £40 in total for fabric and I absolutely love it! I even made the cushion myself 😊 ."

She continued: "I’ve never done anything like this before and I’m so glad I did it and actually quite proud of myself!

"I need to buy some cushions for it as I know it looks bare atm 😂 I’ve uploaded before with the red flowers and after with silver velvet (sic)."

Going into detail about how she did the transformation, Becky added: "Fabric was from eBay and I used 10metres. Just got another sofa to do now 😂😅 ."

Fellow Facebook users were blown away by her efforts and were quick to comment on the post.

"Wow well done looks amazing," one person wrote, while a second added: "My god you done a brilliant job 👏 wish I could do it."

Becky was so touched by the nice comments, that she later edited the post and said: "Thank you all so much I’m blown away by all your wonderful messages. I wasn’t expecting it at all.

"HOW I DID IT (for those who asked)- I used a needle and thread on the cushions as I down own a sewing machine so took a lot of patience (sic).

"The back and side panels I used a staple gun and held the fabric tightly before securing into place.

"I left myself a flap of material on the sides and back to fold over the staples to hide them and used a lot of wonder web and iron to secure down to hide all the staples. And that’s about it."

She added: "It was more straightforward then I thought it would be and took me a couple of days with a 4 year old running round so could probably be done in a day ❤️ I used 10 metres of fabric for one 3 seater sofa."
