FACE MASKS and coverings have been a hotly debated topic during the coronavirus pandemic and they are something everyone has had to get used to wearing.

In the UK they are mandatory on public transport and the government has also recommended that they are worn in places like supermarkets where social distancing isn’t always possible.

But as we adjust to the new normal of wearing face masks many people have struggled to keep theirs on as they are often made to fit all sizes.

In order for them to be effective they need to be fitted to the face so that particles can’t get into the nose and mouth.

One dentist has revealed a simple and easy trick that will help you fit your surgical mask over your face.

Olivia Cuid posted the video to her TikTok page and it has since gone viral as many people look to make their coverings more suitable.

The video racked up millions of views and she has now shared a simple sixty second explainer to help.

With a surgical mask, the blue disposable masks that can be purchased from pharmacies and supermarkets, the sides of your face are left exposed.

Olivia, who is based in Montreal says that there are a few simple steps that you can take to make it fit better.

First she says you need to fold the mask in half, then you need to tie a knot with the ear loops on each side.

Next you need to open up your mask, where the openings at the side appear you need to tuck the fabric underneath the ear loops.

Then all you need to do is put your mask on and go about your day as normal.

Step 1: Wash your hands

Step 2: Fold your mask in half

Step 3: Tie a knot with the ear loops on each side of the mask

Step 4: Open up your mask

Step 5: Tuck in the extra fabric at the sides

Step 6: Wear your mask which should now fit much better

She said: “This is a great trick for people with smaller faces as you will have a better fitting mask.”

Before starting the tutorial she told viewers to make sure they washed their hands before fixing their masks.

Many people on the social media platform praised Olivia for helping.

Others asked her to do other videos with tips on how to stop your glasses steaming up.

She has even garnered interest from celebrities with stars such as Kristen Bell having reposted her tutorials.

Olivia has also posted videos on how to stop face masks hurting your ears.

The original longer video has now had nearly five million views, while the cut down sixty second version has had 3.4 million.

The UK government has previously shared guides on how to make your own face masks at home.

It encouraged people to not buy surgical masks as these are needed for NHS workers.
