The Queen is a huge Doctor Who fan, takes the boxset to Balmoral and even has a favourite time lord

IF we had to guess The Queen's favourite television show, some high-brow drama like Downton Abbey is the first thing that springs to mind.

And although Her Majesty is said to enjoy the popular period drama, The Queen is actually a secret fan of Doctor Who - and even has a favourite time lord.

, The Queen loved the show when it started airing again in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston playing the ninth incarnation of the Doctor.

A Buckingham Palace source said: "The Queen loves the programme and has requested a full set of DVDs.

"She has asked the BBC to send her copies so she can watch the series again during her stay at Balmoral."

Although Christopher Eccleston was allegedly her favourite time lord, Her Majesty has been closing following the fantasy series since it began in 1963 with William Hartnell in the title role.

When she's not watching re-runs of Doctor Who, Her Majesty is also said to be an Eastenders fan - and has even been known to delay her dinner so she can finish an episode.
