Mum-of-two reveals ‘weed is getting her through self-isolation’ with kids – and insists it’s the same as a glass of wine
A MUM-of-two has revealed that smoking weed is what's "getting her through" self-isolating with her children - and insists it's the same as having a glass of wine in the evening.
Caitlin Fladager, 26, lives in Vancouver, Canada, where recreational and medicinal marijuana use is legal.
Earlier this week, the Instagram star - who boasts over 326,000 followers - posed in a slogan T-Shirt reading "Moms who smoke weed are not bad moms" as her son Jack cuddled her leg.
Opening up about her nightly weed use in the caption, Caitlin wrote: "I wanted to take this time to talk about something that has helped me through this whole situation we are all going through. And that’s marijuana."
Explaining how she's seen lots of Instagram posts about "moms chugging bottles of wine" to cope with the coronavirus crisis, Caitlin added: "As soon as I mention I use marijuana to calm myself down after the kids are in bed, I still get those comments and DMs."
The mum-of-two - who has been open about her mental health struggles online - explained how she's been smoking marijuana for the past two years to help with her anxiety and only does it when her children are in bed in the evenings.
She continued: "Especially at a time like now, where my anxiousness is at an all time high, I turn to weed instead of wine. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
"You’re a good mom, I’m a good mom. Smoking marijuana doesn’t change that."
Urging her followers to end the stigma surrounding marijuana, Caitlin concluded: "This is my glass of wine."
Caitlin got pregnant with her high school sweetheart Noah when she was 18 years old and the married couple now share two children, Adriana and Jack.
Last year, the mum-of-two insisted that smoking weed actually makes her a BETTER mum.
She wrote: "I have never been the most patient with my two kids.
"Weed makes me a better mom, as I get a good nights sleep after I smoke. I wake up well rested and with a more clear mind."
Her recent post about her weed use has been met with overwhelming support from her followers.
One wrote: "I suffer from similar anxieties you seem to talk about and I personally find drinking makes it worse while smoking makes it better. You do you!"
Another added: "I honestly believe smoking weed is better!! I don't understand people that can drink alcohol and not be okay with people smoking weed."
A third said: "I’ve been smoking more then usual.. it’s been my help during this."
However, others took issue with Caitlin's marijuana use.
"It's not normal to do either everyday or every night," one Facebook user wrote. "People smoke weed to mask their problems the same as they drink to mask their problems but doing it everyday is detrimental to your mental health and development, because you will never learn coping strategies for whatever issues you're going through..."
"[You] shouldn't smoke OR drink around or then take care of your kids," another argued. "You are not in a completely coherent state of mind or if anything were to happen and they need to be taken to the hospital or something you won't be sound enough to drive. Just my opinion."
