Man buys £60 Pandora engagement ring, and tells fiancee off when it starts to show signs of wear
A BRIDE-to-be is having second thoughts after her new fiance bought her a cheap ring - but then blamed her when it started to go dull.
The woman’s boyfriend got down on one knee a fortnight ago, and she said she would have been happy with “no ring at all” as she's "not a gold digger".
Despite not being materialistic, she began to have doubts about the ring he did buy, despite loving it at first.
After looking at it in detail later that night she claimed “the metal didn’t seem heavy or feel normal”.
She later discovered it was a £60 ring from Pandora, saying: “I won’t lie, I’m upset but not because of the money.”
She claims her husband-to-be told her she has nothing to complain about after she raised her concerns about the ring with him.
The woman shared his reaction to , and people warned her she was being gaslighted.
She said: “I confronted him and told him I noticed the ring was plated rose metal and that it came from Pandora.
“I told him it has nothing to do with the cost of the ring but I was worried it would tarnish and the Cubic Zirconia would get ruined.
“He said that I initially told him I loved it, which was true. It’s pretty looking.
“He then said do I still like how it looks and I said yes but it’s fake metal and won’t last.
“He said that if it’s not about the money and it’s not about how the ring looks then I have nothing to complain about.
“He said Pandora specializes in have a bridal ring section and they wouldn’t make an engagement ring that wouldn’t last.”
She decided to let the issue go, but after a few weeks she says her fiance had noticed the ring had begun to tarnish - but was blaming her.
She continued: “My feelings were brought back up recently because it seems the metal is getting dull on the bottom of the band.
“He said I’m not respecting the ring and need to take care of it and not wear it while I shower but to me that seems weird.
“I feel like whenever a problem is brought up the ring he turns it back on me and makes it a problem with me instead.”
More than 1,000 people have commented on her post, claiming his reaction is a red flag.
One person said: “Also the whole 'not respecting the ring' is pure gaslighting bulls**t.
“Most people wear their wedding ring all day every day until they die or get divorced. It goes through some shit.
“That ring is definitely not going to last. On the plus side, when it does die you can pick out a new one.”
Someone else said: “I’m interested in whether this is a pattern of behavior for him. Blaming her for something like this, being defensive, etc. If so, definite red flags.”
A third commented: “Imagine getting no-say in the only item you're expected to wear indefinitely.”
Someone else wrote: “The biggest red flag is his reaction imo. He just brushed off her concern like it was nothing.”
This person added: “He's gaslighting you. Trying to blame you for the ring deteriorating... Big red flag…"
