Meghan Markle shares behind-the-scenes footage of her editing Vogue that Palace tried to ban for being ‘too casual’

MEGHAN Markle has shared behind-the-scenes footage of her editing British Vogue after it was revealed her Forces for Changes issue was their biggest selling issue of the DECADE.

The Duchess of Sussex - who stepped down from her role in the Royal Family last month - posted a short video on the Sussex Royal Instagram page to celebrate the achievement.

In the two minute video, Meghan sat down with British Vogue editor Edward Enninful to reflect on how they worked together for the 2019 September issue.

However, Buckingham Palace tried to ban the Duchess from sharing the clip when it was filmed in August 2019 as courtiers feared Meghan came across as "too casual".

Now that Prince Harry and Meghan have moved to Canada with son Archie, insiders claimed the reason the video has been showed now "part of her plan to take back control" of their image.

The clips begins with the Duchess saying she originally got in contact with the "fashion bible" editor in January 2019 to ask if he would assist her with her Smart Works charity clothing collection.

Describing their first meeting, he explained: "I remember walking into Kensington Palace and I was so excited.

And I was like, 'Lovely to meet you, Duchess.' And you were like, 'Call me Meghan!"

After Edward agreed to help her with the workwear line, Meghan joked that she "pushed it a little bit more" by asking if she could guest-edit the September issue - which is always the biggest edition as it marks the shift from Spring/Summer clothing lines to Autumn/Winter.

As Meghan said she didn't know if "anyone had ever done it before", Edward gushed: "In the history of Vogue, you're the first."

Praising the Duchess for how she put together the issue, he said: "You have an editor's eye, I've never seen anything like it. You were so thorough from beginning to end."

However, Meghan admitted that she "left the fashion stuff to the professionals".

The cover - which had a reflective panel on the front to invite the reader to be their own "force for change" - featured 15 "trailblazers" - including Jameela Jamil, Laverne Cox and New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern.

Explaining why she put the reflective panel on the front, Meghan said: "Having the mirror - anyone, no matter who they are - picking up this issue, should be able to see themselves in it.

"And that's what I feel really proud that we've accomplished."

To celebrate the issue going to press, Meghan then surprised the editor with some glittery hats and party horns.

The video ends with the pair calling each of their 15 "forces for change" figures to let them know they had been chosen for the cover.

To celebrate the news, Meghan shared the clip with her 11.2 million Instagram followers this evening.

She captioned the post: "Earlier today Edward Enninful, the Editor in Chief of British Vogue, shared: 'Forces for Change, guest edited by The Duchess of Sussex, was our fastest-selling issue in the history of British Vogue (sold out in 10 days) and the biggest-selling issue of the past decade.

'I can't wait to see what 2020 has in store...'

"Congratulations to all of those who took part in the 2019 September issue, and huge thanks to those who supported and helped make this a success!"
