The Queen has two fittings for every outfit she wears because she views comfort as key
SHE'S famous for her colour-coordinated wardrobe and collection of fine jewels - but according to her dresser, The Queen's greatest fashion priority is to be comfortable at all times.
In her tell-all book The Other Side of the Coin: The Queen, the Dresser and the Wardrobe, Angela Kelly revealed the great lengths she goes to to make sure The Queen's special occasion clothes are practical and comfortable.
For state dinners and formal royal duties, Her Majesty will often wear dresses with heavy beading which causes the garment to become very heavy.
Angela - who has served at Buckingham Palace since 1994 - explained: "I usually add a few extra lining to help cushion the impact, especially at the back of the dress.
"[I] try to keep the heavily beaded areas to the front and sides."
In other words, she limits the number of beads on the back of dresses to make it more comfortable for Her Majesty to sit down.
What's more, the Queen's close friend also revealed that she arranges two fittings for every outfit Her Majesty wears because she values comfort so much.
In her book, Angela also revealed she locks away The Queen's Ascot outfits every year as punters spend thousands guessing what colour she'll wear.
Ahead of the book's release, reported: "Every day of the equestrian festival, hundreds of thousand are staked on the colour of The Queen's hat or dress."
As a result, Angela and The Queen select her outfits the week before the event and are then "physically locked away in Ms Kelly's bedroom" in hanging bags and tightly-sealed hat boxes at Windsor Castle.
And in order to throw any staff off the scent, the paper reported: "At least three hats are left out on display in the workroom which can be seen by any staff who walk along the corridor.
What's more, Paul Burrell claimed last year that The Queen is presented with sketches of her outfits and material samples before getting dressed EVERY morning.
