Couple slammed for telling friends they can’t afford to invite them to the wedding but still ask for honeymoon donations

A BRIDE and groom have been slammed as ‘tacky’ for sending notes to people telling them they’re not invited to the wedding - but still asked them for money.

The couple sent out what was initially thought to be a sweet gesture, letting certain people know that unfortunately they weren’t able to invite them to the wedding.

They said the venue wasn't big enough, and with weddings an expensive venture there are always a few people who have to be cut from the guest list.

But after explaining they didn’t make the grade, the couple still shamelessly asked for donations for their 'beautiful honeymoon'.

A snap of the card was uploaded to , and people are enraged.

It says: “As much as we would love for you to attend, sadly, our venue cannot accommodate everyone.

“We are sure to keep you in our hearts in this celebration of love.”

But then it goes on to ask those not invited to still hand over cash to fund the couple's luxury honeymoon.

It continues: “If you would like to congratulate the bride and groom, rather than a registry, they are accepting money to aid in a beautiful honeymoon.”

People also noted how the first part was written in first person, but the bit asking for money was suspiciously in the third person.

The card has racked up more than 400 comments online, as the husband-and-wife-to-be were branded ‘shameless’ and ‘entitled’.

It is beyond tacky, it is just plan trashy

Reddit

One person said: “Why do people think anyone else gives a s*** about their honeymoon?

“Everyone is struggling, so if you can’t afford to have a big wedding, don’t! The entitlement is mind-boggling.”

Someone else fumed: “People are so greedy these days it's shameful ‘you aren't invited to the wedding but still send us money’ are you kidding me. GTFO with that bulls**t.”

A third thought: “I see nothing wrong with announcements or even an explanation why they weren’t invited.

“But to ask for gifts in the same breath? That’s tacky.”

Another commented: “It is beyond tacky, it is just plan trashy. I would be so disgusted if I got a letter like this.”

While this person added: “I like the non-invitation part. It’s a way to say ‘we couldn’t invite you, but we didn’t forget about you. Here’s is why we couldn’t.’

“I think that’s nice. But don’t ask for money. Shameless.”
