How the Queen showed her support for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry with her choice of brooch at church
THE QUEEN appeared to show her support for her grandson Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with her choice of brooch when she attended church on Sunday.
The monarch was pictured wearing a powder blue suit as she arrived in West Newton near Sandringham, which she accessorised with a diamante snowflake pin.
The elegant brooch was gifted to her by the former Governor-General of Canada, David Johnston on behalf of the Canadian people.
The gift was presented to the Queen on her Sapphire jubilee in 2017 featuring both diamonds and the pale blue stone itself to mark her 65 years on the throne.
Royal fans have speculated that the monarch’s choice to wear the brooch showcased her support of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to move to Canada with their son Archie.
Phil Dampier, author of Royally Suited: Harry and Meghan in their Own Words, told Fabulous Digital it could be a sign of the Queen's support.
He said: “The Queen has a habit of sending out coded messages in subtle ways.
“For example she uses her handbag to give out messages to aides, if it's in a certain position she wants to leave an event in five minutes.
“She wears clothes and jewellery to show support or empathy with a country, for example she wore green on her historic visit to Ireland.
“So it's quite possible she is sending a message to Harry and Meghan.
“I'm sure she is devastated by their departure and will want to leave the door open for their return should they ever change their minds and come back.”
Meghan and Harry announced their decision to leave the royal family last month.
The couple will now be simply known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after being forced to drop their Royal Highness titles.
Following the Megxit deal, the Queen issued a statement shwoing her support of her grandson.
It read: "Following many months of conversations and more recent discussions, I am pleased that together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family.
"Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved members of my family.
"I recognise the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life.
"I want to thank them for all their dedicated work across this country, the Commonwealth and beyond, and am particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of the family.
"It is my whole family’s hope that today’s agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life."
