Bride who cancelled wedding after fiance cheated slams sister for demanding to wear HER gown
IMAGINE this - your sister who you love dearly has just called off her wedding after finding out her partner of five years cheated on her with a stripper during his stag do. Ouch.
Do you A. rush to her side with multiple boxes of tissues and chocolate or B. rush to her side with multiple boxes of tissues and chocolate AND ice cream.
Or C. do you call dibs on her expensive designer wedding dress ASAP because you quite fancy it for yourself?
Unfortunately for one scorned woman, her sister chose the latter option in the immediate aftermath of her relationship breaking down - and then kicked up a fuss when she decided to re purpose the gown for herself.
Sharing her unusual dilemma on , the American bride explained how she'd spend £1,500 on her wedding dress.
She wrote: "I was supposed to get married 2 moths ago to my ex partner of 5 years. Sadly we broke it off because he cheated on me on his bachelor party with a stripper.
"I had been very depressed since everything happened because I felt it was somehow my fault for not being sexy enough or not giving him what he wanted.
"So last weekend I decided to 'take my power back' and I began altering the dress [...] I cut it a bit, changed the colour to something less wedding-y and after a week of work, I had a beautiful gown that I could use for more stuff."
But rather than being happy to see her slowing getting over the devastating split, the bride's sister kicked off because she'd fancied the pricey gown for her own wedding in five months time.
The woman continued: "I uploaded a pictured of the dress to Instagram with a caption that said something along the lines of 'you can change the worst memories' or some s*** like that."
Immediately afterwards, she got a phone call from her furious sister.
My mum and sister where there cheering me up and my sister said something along the lines of 'oh well, if you are not using it I will'. We all laughed so I thought it was a joke because it was never brought up again after. She just asked me once what material it was so I assumed she wanted something similar.
"She then called me and asked me why I had done this," the woman wrote. "I asked her why it was such a big deal. And she told me that I could have waited till after her wedding. I was so confused."
It was at this point that the sister reminded the bride of what she'd said in the hotel room at her wedding - shortly after the whole thing had been called off.
She continued: "My mum and sister where there cheering me up and my sister said something along the lines of 'oh well, if you are not using it then I will'.
"We all laughed so I thought it was a joke because it was never brought up again after. She just asked me once what material it was so I assumed she wanted something similar."
What's more, the woman's mum is trying to stay out of the dispute and says she can understand both their point of views.
So with no one left to ask, the bride turned to Reddit for advice - and the overwhelming majority of people who commented on the thread insisted that her sister was in the wrong... and suggested she wear the updated dress to the wedding.
One replied: "I think it's pretty insensitive for your sister to expect to use your wedding dress. She needs to consider how painful it would probably be for you to sit at her wedding and watch her walk down the aisle in the dress you were supposed to wear for your wedding.
"You should feel proud of yourself for reclaiming your power and turning the dress into something new and positive for you."
Another added: " I was going to say [not the a******] because this seemed to be a communication breakdown where she had asked to use your dress and you just hadn't taken the ask seriously.
"But your sister is the a***** for not following up on the dress thing before this point, because her wedding is in five months."
Meanwhile, a third wrote: "You bought the dress and can do whatever you want with it.
"She's nuts to think that you would remember her comment of using the dress when you had just gone through a horrible emotional situation."
