Meghan Markle ‘must learn from Wallis Simpson to stop history repeating itself’, royal author warns

MEGHAN Markle must "learn from Wallis Simpson" as she and Prince Harry embark on a new life in Canada, a royal writer has warned.

Writing for , The American Duchess author Anna Pasternak explained Wallis had to guide Edward VIII through normal life after he abdicated to marry her in 1936.

Without the strict regime of royal life, Anna predicts Harry, 35, will "rely on" Meghan, 38, "more heavily than before" following their decision to quit.

Meghan moved to Toronto in 2011, when she landed the role of Rachel Zane in Suits, meaning she already has a support network there - and will be responsible for Harry's social life across the pond.

Similarly, Edward gave up the throne and moved to Paris to start a new life with double-divorcee Wallis.

Anna warned: "For Wallis and Edward there remained a seam of guilt that underlay their marriage. He had turned her into the most hated woman in the world, while she felt responsible for taking him away from his country."

She says Wallis struggled to help Edward adjust to normal life

Of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's future, she said: "Without his family and roster of royal duties – everything that has given structure and meaning to his life - Harry’s sense of purpose will demand detailed attention from his wife."

Anna said Harry seems to have "admirably put Meghan's happiness first" up to this point, but they're set for a role reversal.

She added: "The onus will be on (Meghan) to ensure that this monumental sacrifice has been worth it. She may well find, as Wallis did, that this becomes onerous."
