Meghan Markle and Prince Harry send message of support to those affected by the Australian bushfires

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have taken to Instagram to post their support and sympathy to those affected by the Australian bush fires.

The royal couple have been on holiday in Canada over Christmas and New Year but have now taken a moment to issue a statement regarding the blaze that continues to tear through the south-east of the country.

In a post on their official account , they uploaded multiple pictures of the devastation, including one of an Australian volunteer fireman holding a koala bear and another showing the developing smoke and fires.

They captioned it: ‘Our thoughts and prayers are with those across Australia who are continuing to face the devastating fires that have been raging for months.

"From areas we are personally connected to such as the communities and people we visited in New South Wales in 2018, to the fires in California and parts of Africa, we are struck by the increasingly overlapping presence of these environmental disasters, including of course the destruction of the Amazon which continues."

Within the statement the royals were keen to encourage others to help all that they can and listed ways in which that would be possible.
