Meghan Markle and Prince Harry promote ‘joy’ & ‘acts of kindness’ in 2020 by supporting Good News Movement on Instagram
MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry have kicked the New Year off by celebrating the work of a journalist-run Instagram account that focuses on positive news stories.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced on Wednesday they would be using their popular SussexRoyal page to promote one inspiring account each month in 2020.
January’s pick is the , which “celebrates acts of kindness and good news in our global community”.
The Sussexes wrote on Instagram: “Happy New Year! For 2020 we will be continuing our tradition of highlighting accounts that inspire, and that remind us of all the good that is happening in the world.
“However, this time we will be focusing on just one account each month.
“For January, we would like to shine a spotlight on @goodnews_movement.”
The post comes a day after proud parents Meghan, 38, and Harry, 35, shared an unseen photo of their adorable son Archie on their 2019 highlights reel.
The image showed the young royal in sheepskin boots and a sweet little bobble hat as he cuddled up to his dad by a lake in Canada.
The goodnews_movement, which currently has 192,000 followers, celebrates community heroes who have made others’ lives better.
Acts of kindness featured on the page include donations given to refuge shelters over Christmas and a grandad who gives a schoolbus to his 10 grandkids so he can drive them to school each day.
Meghan and Harry’s influential account hit 10million followers just before New Year’s Eve.
The SussexRoyal broke records when it was launched on April 2 last year.
It became the fastest account to reach one million followers in less than six hours, Guinness World Records confirmed.
This was later beaten by Jennifer Aniston who reached a million followers in five hours 45 minutes, when she joined the site in October.
Now the SussexRoyal account has 10,049,676 followers, which is just behind Kate Middleton and Prince William’s KensingtonRoyal account, which currently has 10,647,770 fans.
Unsurprisingly, baby son Archie dominates the SussexRoyal’s top nine most liked pictures.
Ranking as the most popular of all among royal fans - with 3m 'likes' - was a black and white photo of Harry and Meghan taking Archie to meet great-grandparents the Queen and Prince Philip, alongside grandmother Doria Ragland.
Since launching their own account earlier this year, the Duke and Duchess have chosen each month to follow a small number of accounts promoting good causes.
For December, they opted to raise awareness of a dozen charitable accounts in a move "inspired by 12 days of Christmas".
The couple skipped spending Christmas with the Queen at Sandringham this year, and have been enjoying time in Canada with Archie.
During their stay, Meghan and Harry have been spotted jogging in North Saanich by locals and were most recently seen hiking in Horth Hill Regional Park - near to the exclusive French restaurant Deep Cove Chalet where they were reportedly refused a table over their tight security needs.
According to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex "couldn't help" but spoil their seven-month-old son who is reportedly becoming quite a "social butterfly".
A source said: "Archie is the centre of Meghan and Harry's world and they can't help it.
"For Christmas, they bought him books, building blocks and a baby ball bit. It's not all about extravagant gifts for them."
