The revelation was made by Chris Evans on his BBC Radio 2 show in 2008 after his friend had relayed to him the events of a dinner at Windsor Castle.

According to the DJ, the monarch - who is now 93 - surprised guests by getting up for a twirl when Dancing Queen started playing.

She then caused even more shock when she admitted it was her favourite tune.

Her Majesty reportedly said: "I always try to dance when this song comes on because I am the Queen and I like to dance."

The Queen's relative added: "We did a lot of singing at Kensington Palace.

"Nobody thought it was odd after dinner if we put on a record and all sang Doing the Lambeth Walk, so music has always been part of her life."
