Kate Middleton hailed as ‘a national treasure’, ‘humble’ and ‘so genuine’ after her charity show with Mary Berry
KATE Middleton has been praised as a “national treasure” and worthy “future Queen” after revealing to Mary Berry how she is raising her kids.
The Duchess of Cambridge, 37, opened up to the British food writer, 84, on how she tries to make life as down-to-earth as possible for her three children.
Speaking on BBC’s A Berry Royal Christmas, which aired on Monday, Kate told Mary how she strongly believes in the benefits of being outdoors and cooking.
On the show, she revealed: “We grow our own vegetables. We’ve got carrots, beans, beetroot - a massive favourite - Louis absolutely loves beetroot.
“Charlotte obviously likes her Charlotte potatoes.”
She added: "Well, I think being outside and being in nature is such a great environment for [children] to learn lifelong skills, really.
“Physical, emotional and cognitive skills. Whether it’s digging, running, boulder-hopping…”
The duchess previously revealed on Blue Peter earlier this year how she likes to "drag outside" her children for at least 15 minutes a day.
On this week's BBC show, Kate shared that her children, Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, one, have inherited their parent's love of food.
Mary asks Kate if she cooks with the kids, and the duchess reveals they actually made a recipe of Mary’s recently at Kensington Palace.
Kate said: “I really enjoy it. For them to be creative, for them to try and be as independent as possible with it.
“Actually one of the last things we cooked together was your pizza dough. We made pizzas.”
Smiling, Mary said: “Did you? Did it work?” and the royal mum replies: “It did work, they loved it.”
Fans were quick to praise Kate for the hour-long documentary, which saw Mary accompany the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as they visited four patronages.
One gushed: “Sign of a true future queen. I’m proud of her and her sister-in-law. The Queen is truly a proud grandmother.
“The future of the monarchy will be around for another 100yrs.”
Another said: “She’s so genuine. I never thought a royal can be so humble and the way she greets her guest, tells something about pizza dough is just like me with my friends or neighbours.”
It’s not the first time Kate has been praised for her down-to-earth approach to parenting.
The royal mum stunned shoppers in October after she was spotted in Sainsbury’s picking up some Halloween outfits for her kids.
And last Christmas she also made a surprise appearance in The Range when she was seen picking up some festive gifts.
Flybe passengers were shocked when Kate and the rest of the Cambridge brood boarded a £73-a-head budget flight from Norwich to Aberdeen to visit the Queen at Balmoral.
Speaking to Fabulous Digital, royal expert Phil Dampier said: “William and Kate have made sure that their three children are getting as normal a childhood as possible and they all love the outdoor life.
“At Anmer Hall in Norfolk they go for long walks in woods and have frequent trips to the beach.
“Kate’s mum Carole is very close to George and often takes him out alone."
