Mum ‘traps’ Elf On The Shelf inside Amazon Alexa – and he tells her daughter to ‘go to bed nicely’

One genius mum has come up with a new concept for the popular festive tradition that will take you just minutes to execute - and all you need is an Amazon Alexa.

She shared a video of the toy appearing to leave a message for her daughter Sienna via Alexa.

It could be heard saying: "I've spoken to Santa and told him that you were a good girl for Granny Linda and Aunt Ginny today.

"He says you have to go to bed nicely tonight and sleep all night.

Hiding the toy around the house has become a popular festive tradition

"It won't be long before he's visiting you."

The clever mum explained to fellow members how she was able to set her Alexa up to allow the Elf to speak.

She wrote: "FYI to all parents using the Elf this year.

"I figured this out the other day. It’s been amazing.

"If you have Alexa go to the app."

The woman called Suz explained in a Facebook post how she got the virtual assistant to tell her daughter Sienna a personalised message from the toy

Suz then revealed that you need to select 'settings' then 'my profile' and change your name to Elf.

"Then go to messages (communicate)," she continued.

"Type a message from the Elf. Then ask Alexa: 'Alexa play my messages'."

The Elf will then talk - reading out any personalised messages you've typed into the app.

The woman added that you can also get Alexa to do a Christmas countdown by saying: "Alexa. How many day till Christmas?"

If you ask, "Alexa. Can I talk to Santa", then 'Father Christmas' will read your children a story and sing a song with them.

Her post was very popular with fellow members, and has received over 900 'likes' and more than 2.1k comments.

One person wrote: "Brilliant thanks for sharing the Elf idea."

Tagging their friend, a third shared: "Take a look at this!!"
