The Queen once told off £50K-per-day celebrity photographer who asked her to remove her crown
THE QUEEN is rarely ruffled in public, but she once “told off” a celebrity photographer.
Annie Leibovitz, who charges £50,000 a day, was commissioned to take four portraits to mark the monarch’s state visit to the US back in 2007, and on set asked Her Majesty to remove her crown.
The exchange can be heard in backstage scenes from the BBC1 documentary A Year with the Queen.
Queen’s state visit to the United States in May, said: "I think it will look better without the crown because the garter robe is so…"
Interrupting the Queen then jokes: "Less dressy? What do you think this is?" gesturing towards her robes.
It seems that the monarch was adamant about keeping her outfit as it was.
Ahead of the shoot she said to an aide: “I’m not changing anything. I’ve had enough dressing like this thank you very much."
But a clip for the programme suggested she had “stormed out” of the shoot, forcing the BBC was later forced to apologise to Her Majesty for “misrepresentation.”
In fact the pictures that were used were of the Queen walking in for the session rather than walking out.
In a statement the BBC said: “In this trailer there is a sequence that implies that the Queen left a sitting prematurely.
“This was not the case and the actual sequence of events was misrepresented.”
It later continued: “The BBC would like to apologise to both the Queen and Annie Leibowitz for any upset this may have caused.”
