Meghan Markle looks adoringly at a tiny dog as she pauses ‘royal break’ to raise awareness for pet charity Mayhew
MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry have taken time out from their royal break in order to raise awareness of an animal charity.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently on a six week break from royal engagements but paused to post about the Mayhew animal sanctuary on their official Instagram account today.
The couple shared a photo of Meghan, who is patron of the charity, meeting a small dog during her visit to the Mayhew Animal Home while she was pregnant with Archie back in January.
Captioning the the couple wrote: “As we continue to reflect on some of the organisations supported by The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, today we wanted to share more about @TheMayhew, an animal welfare charity which The Duchess became Patron of earlier this year.
“Mayhew believes in the power of community and the special bond between humans and animals, which is why their programming does not simply focus on rescuing animals but rather takes a more holistic approach to shaping the lives of pets and humans, alike.
“Their TheraPaws dogs and volunteers now visit not just care homes and hospitals, but also mental health facilities and youth groups – expanding the benefits of animal assisted therapy into much needed areas.
“They also work with the homeless community assisting with treatments and check ups for their pets so that the most vulnerable can trust that their pet will remain by their side.”
They went on to explain how Meghan was particularly pleased to see how the charity was opening its doors to more women, sharing snaps of some of the overseas volunteers.
They continued: “This year, Mayhew has continued its specialized work overseas, vaccinating more than 30,000 dogs against rabies and other diseases, and empowering locals to improve animal welfare humanely and sustainably.
“The Duchess is also proud that they are creating opportunities for women, with the female led vet team in Kabul neutering 2,500 dogs so far this year.
“As a long-time rescue dog owner, The Duchess of Sussex is proud to be Mayhew’s Patron and applauds them for the vital work that they do every day.”
They finished: “Please visit @TheMayhew to learn more, as Mayhew continue their very important contribution to the community for all of us and the pets we hold dear.”
The post has received almost 70,000 likes as well as plenty of messages of support from their followers.
Meghan and Harry are currently on a six-week break from royal engagements, although the palace has remained tight-lipped on their whereabouts.
DOES MEGHAN WRITE HER OWN INSTAGRAM POSTS?
Eagle-eyed fans reckon they’ve spotted the proof Meghan writes her own captions on Instagram.
The couple wrote a Thanksgiving message and used the Americanism “holidays” to refer to festive period.
The December 1 post is the latest in a string of clues that Meghan has a firm hand over the Sussex Royal account.
Highlighting how one of their chosen charities Baby2Baby had benefited from the donations, a caption in April read: "Baby2Baby have received over 5,000 products to disperse to children in need, including cribs, books, backpacks, diapers and have received monetary donations from around the globe."
Highlighting how nappies have been referred to as "diapers" and cots as "cribs", one fan speculated that "Meghan is writing the captions".
As well as this, fans also believe that the spelling of the words "organisation" and "re-energise" with a "z" suggest that Meghan is actually the one running the page.
However, royal correspondent Omid Scobie said on his HeirPod Podcast they headed across the pond to spend Thanksgiving privately with her mum Doria Ragland.
They have broken their break in order to post about their charities including the Hubb Community Kitchen and the Endeavor Fund.
Harry and Meghan also chose to share an inspirational quote from Leo Buscaglia with their followers.
The couple were absent from President Trump meeting with the Queen and other Nato world leaders at Buckingham Palace last week.
It has already been announced the Sussexes will not be spending Christmas Day with the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh at her private Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
The Queen is said to be supportive of Meghan and Harry's plans and it follows the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's past decision to spend Christmas with Kate's parents, and not with the Queen.
