Conor Maynard talks battling depression, overthinking and not having enough sex
CONOR Maynard, 27, shot to fame in 2012 with his debut single Can’t Say No and UK no.1 album Contrast.
Here, the British singer-songwriter discusses life, love, and what he's learnt.
Who or what is the love of your life?
As of right now, there’s definitely not a who, but the passion in my life is creating things, like music or videos.
Who would you invite to a dinner party?
The best dinner party would be just my closest mates, where I’m not nervous or thinking I’m going to look like an idiot.
What scares you?
Not being happy.
How often do you have sex?
Too long since the last time. Sometimes there will be bursts of it and sometimes there’s a drought. Single life.
Which word do you overuse?
Literally.
Who makes you laugh the most?
It’s between my two best friends, Anth, who’s a rapper, and my other best friend Alex, who I grew up with at school.
All-time favourite movie?
What were your fave kids’ TV shows?
SpongeBob SquarePants, The Suite Life Of Zack & Cody, That’s So Raven and Hannah Montana.
What is your worst habit?
Overthinking things. And I also rely too much on other people’s opinions.
What’s your earliest memory?
Being on my way to Butlin’s on holiday with my family when I was seven. I was eating a cookie and I remember being so excited about jumping in the pool when I got there.
Which public figure do you admire?
I think Ellen DeGeneres is amazing and Will Smith seems like a good guy.
Who was your first kiss?
I was 13 and her name was Ellie. We dated for a bit and then we broke up and she dated my best friend. Still not over that one.
Do you have a party trick?
I can beatbox a little bit.
What’s the worst pain you’ve experienced?
I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety. It’s one of the most horrific feelings and I would never wish it on anybody.
Most famous person in your phone?
Pharrell, Justin Bieber and a couple of the 1D boys.
What’s your greatest achievement?
I like to feel I haven’t achieved it yet, but as of right now, probably my first album going to No.1.
Leave or remain?
I’ve been living in America for the last two years and haven’t looked into the whole Brexit situation. I would never like to make a decision unless it’s very informed.
Who would you like to apologise to?
Uber drivers I’ve lost my temper with.
Who is your celebrity crush?
I watched Normani’s music video recently and I was like: “Oh my god.” So, her.
