Meghan Markle received a pair of pearl drop earrings from the Queen as a ‘welcome to the family gift’
WHEN Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot in May 2018, the Queen made an extra special effort to welcome the Duchess of Sussex into the family.
Like she did with Kate years before, Her Maj invited Meghan to join her on an official engagement - just the two of them - and she also gifted the now mum-of-one a very special present.
Before the pair embarked on an engagement to Cheshire, the Queen is said to have given her grandson's new wife a pair of pearl drop earrings, which Meghan can be seen wearing in photos.
They're rather similar to a pair the Queen was wearing herself during the trip, with the monarch's being slightly larger in size.
Meghan can be seen wearing the stunning jewellery - which appear to feature a diamond and a pearl - in photographs taken on the day.
It's thought the Queen invited Meghan to welcome her into the royal family, with Her Maj having embarked on an engagement with Kate Middleton to Leicester in 2012.
The Queen and Meghan arrived in Cheshire after they travelled overnight by Royal Train.
Arriving at Runcorn station, the Duchess of Sussex looked incredible in a bespoke Givenchy dress while the Queen wore lime green.
The trip meant Meghan had plenty of quality time to get to know her new grandmother-in-law, with the monarch preferring to make long journeys overnight.
As part of the visit, The Queen officially opened the Mersey Gateway Bridge in Widnes and the Storyhouse cultural centre in Chester.
Meghan has since worn the earrings on a number of occasions, including in Fiji last year and at the WellChild awards in September 2018.
