Bride uses £1.50 Aldi cleaner to get filthy wedding dress looking brand new – and saves £315 in dry cleaning
A WOMAN has transformed her wedding dress using a £1.50 stain remover from Aldi.
The bride was left with a filthy gown following her big day - and was quoted £315 by a dry cleaner to get rid of the dust, grass marks and goose poo that had collected on the fabric as she celebrated.
In group 'Mums Who Clean', the Australian woman recalled how her "epic, large flouncy gown" had got messy after she walked around the grounds of a winery where her wedding reception was held.
But instead of shelling out to get the white frock professionally cleaned, she decided to try and tackle the stains herself.
"I got married five years ago and haven't been able to reconcile parting with the $600 [approximately £315] it will cost to professionally clean," the former bride wrote in a post.
The member revealed that she decided to try instead Sard Wonder Stick - costing $5, or £2.60 - and Aldi Di-San Soaker - which set her back $3.75, or £1.50.
- Vanish Oxi Action Stain Remover, £3.55, Waitrose -
Carefully spraying and scrubbing each of the marks, she slowly got out the stubborn stains.
Then she placed the wedding dress in the washing machine on a handwash cycle.
Her impressive 'before' and 'after' pictures of the gown show how she was able to transform it into what appeared to be a brand new dress.
"There are still a small amount of black marks on the bottom but I decided to do this late in the day and didn't leave it to soak very long," she said.
- Sard Wonder Soap Stick, £5.95, Sanza -
"The only issue was some very minor damage to a mesh covering over the corset back from the claws of the crystals but they already had a bit of damage so no drama there."
While the Sard product can be bought in the UK, the Aldi cleaner cannot - however Vanish Oxi Action Stain Remover contains the same "oxi action" formula that is designed to penetrate and lift stains.
The woman added that she was "very pleased" with the result, and many fellow members praised her for getting the dress looking "brand new".
After scrubbing at the marks she placed the dress in the washing machine on a handwash cycle
One former dry cleaner told her: "Remember to store it in a box lined with acid free tissue paper. That will help it stay like that."
Another commented: "I washed mine in the bath with Martha's wool wash."
And a third added: "Thanks for sharing! I've been wanting to do this myself for the last six years."
