OTHER than Kate Middleton's dreamy pink floral midi dress, the thing that sticks out in our mind most about Princess Charlotte's first day of school was the four-year-old royal shaking hands with her headteacher.

Back in September, a "very excited" Princess Charlotte was accompanied by her two parents and older brother Prince George as she arrived at St Thomas' in Battersea, South London.

Unlike our first days of school, the children's headteacher was waiting by the door to greet them while the world's press where on standby to capture Princess Charlotte's special day.

At the time, Radio 1 Host Greg James poked fun at the Royals and couldn't help but mock the formal greeting as overly "posh".

During his breakfast show yesterday morning, Greg recalled: "I saw the photo [of Charlotte with her headteacher] during the show and said, 'Who the hell shakes hands with their teacher on the first day?'"

Unfortunately for Gregg, it turns out Prince William and Kate Middleton happened to be listening to him make the comments live on air - and confronted him about it a few weeks later.

In October, Greg attended Radio 1's Teen Heroes of 2019 awards which were held at Kensington Palace.

Recalling his conversation with Kate and William, he said: "They said: 'We were listening on the morning of little Charlotte's first day and we want to talk to you about the handshaking thing...'

"I went: 'Oh God, no!' They'd heard me saying this school was so posh they had to shake hands with their teacher everyday.

"They were not like that in my day. You were pleased if you got a smile."

Luckily for Greg, Kate and William saw the funny side and he added: "I'm sure it's all absolutely fine."
