FANS of last year’s ‘alternative Christmas’ ad have said the budget production still brings a tear to their eye - as they await the filmmaker's new release tomorrow.
After the big name brands had released their festive adverts for 2018, one emerged which stole the nations’ heart – and it cost £50 to make.
Dubbed the ‘alternative Christmas ad’, Love Is a Gift by Philip Beastall was hailed as the true meaning of Christmas.
Made by the filmmaker on a tight budget, it showed a man counting
down the days until Christmas.
On the morning of December 25, instead of unwrapping expensive presents he gets out a tape player and plays a cassette his mum made for him before she passed away.
It was the last recording she made for him, and the ad went viral around the world being watched by millions.
As Christmas approaches again, fans are still hailing the advert as one of the best made.
Commenting on his page, one person said: “Phil, that makes my cry each time I watch it. Brilliant.
“So looking forward to your next one.”
Another wrote: “Still gives me goose bumps. Wish this was a tv advert showing loneliness at Christmas.
"Missing loved ones. So so good.”
A third Tweeted: “Still making me cry.”
Someone else commented: “Still chokes me up! Can’t wait to see your new release Phil.”
And this person said: “Can't wait to see it. Love is a Gift
was special, and, I am sure this one will be just as touching. Best of luck
Phil.”
With Phil’s next festive advert dropping tomorrow, people can’t wait to see if the filmmaker can replicate last year’s success.
He tweeted: "I'm excited to announce that on Sun 17th Nov I will be releasing my new Christmas film.
"Last year was huge for me when 'Love is a Gift' went viral and was viewed around the world by millions with the original post shared 200,000 times!"
